Winter Break Writing

My goal is to finish this novel that I’ve been working on for FIVE DAMN YEARS!!! I got the germ of an idea in May 2011. Started writing the novel a year later. I WILL finish it and begin looking for an agent. Because I’m ready to write something else.

Gender-Neutral Pronouns...

I have been working hard to use them this week, because of my gender-fluid students. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it to see how much it means to these kiddos.

….I dyed my hair blue. Then I kept dying it blue. Bright blue; dark blue; purple-blue. My bathroom has permanent blue ink stains. My dog is growing out a bit of blue dye that dripped on his forehead. I have t-shirts with permanent blue stains around the neckline.

So now, as we enter 2016 and I embark on the second half of my 40th year on Earth…I’m thinking it might be time grow up a bit.

In 2016 I’m gonna dye my hair more of a violet-red. Yeah. That feels more mature.

My dog is disappointed...

…in the amount of writing I have done today. He doesn’t understand procrastination. (But he recognizes laziness when he sees it).

After today, we both have a pretty good understanding of Top Chef…

5) It helps you hone your craft. It really, really does.

But all writing groups are not created equal. Look for a group that meets most (or all) of these criteria:
1) The group is small. 5 or 6 writers is ideal. 7 or 8 is do-able. 9 or 10 is pushing it. Anything lar...

Writing is hard!

Posted by Blakely Lord on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, In : Writing Craft
I really thought I'd have another book for sale by now. But for some reason getting that first draft written is a slow, painful process. I watch my friends do NaNoWriMo and I am so jealous I could spit.

But then I think Wait a second! I could do that, too, if I wanted to!

And then I'm just mad at myself.

So lately I have been thinking about what makes it so hard for me to write. And I have come to the realization that I spend a lot of time looking for perfection.

And then I found this.
