Winter Break Writing

My goal is to finish this novel that I’ve been working on for FIVE DAMN YEARS!!! I got the germ of an idea in May 2011. Started writing the novel a year later. I WILL finish it and begin looking for an agent. Because I’m ready to write something else.

Gender-Neutral Pronouns...

I have been working hard to use them this week, because of my gender-fluid students. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it to see how much it means to these kiddos.

….I dyed my hair blue. Then I kept dying it blue. Bright blue; dark blue; purple-blue. My bathroom has permanent blue ink stains. My dog is growing out a bit of blue dye that dripped on his forehead. I have t-shirts with permanent blue stains around the neckline.

So now, as we enter 2016 and I embark on the second half of my 40th year on Earth…I’m thinking it might be time grow up a bit.

In 2016 I’m gonna dye my hair more of a violet-red. Yeah. That feels more mature.

My dog is disappointed...

…in the amount of writing I have done today. He doesn’t understand procrastination. (But he recognizes laziness when he sees it).

After today, we both have a pretty good understanding of Top Chef…

Posted by Blakely Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2013, In : Indie Publishing
It's come to my attention that there's a debate raging between authors who call themselves "indie" and those who call themselves "self-published." I use the word raging loosely, because it's not exactly rocking the casbah. But apparently, it is a Thing.

The crux of the argument goes like this:

  • Self-publishing has a bad rep. People don't want to be associated with it, because it brings to mind vanity presses and books full of typos.
  • Indie publishing sounds cool and cutting edge, and makes people ...

Anthology for Sale!

Posted by Blakely Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2012, In : Indie Publishing
So my new anthology, Doom Days is officially for sale on Amazon! If you liked Illegal Magic, check out this compilation of post-apocalyptic fiction!

I contributed a story to the anthology, along with four of my friends. It was a really fun - and challenging - project. We learned a lot about how to function together as a creative team, and we had a great time co-creating a world and filling it with characters.

Our plan is to write more anthologies together, set in the same world. Read the first...
