Winter Break Writing

My goal is to finish this novel that I’ve been working on for FIVE DAMN YEARS!!! I got the germ of an idea in May 2011. Started writing the novel a year later. I WILL finish it and begin looking for an agent. Because I’m ready to write something else.

Gender-Neutral Pronouns...

I have been working hard to use them this week, because of my gender-fluid students. It’s a challenge, but it’s worth it to see how much it means to these kiddos.

….I dyed my hair blue. Then I kept dying it blue. Bright blue; dark blue; purple-blue. My bathroom has permanent blue ink stains. My dog is growing out a bit of blue dye that dripped on his forehead. I have t-shirts with permanent blue stains around the neckline.

So now, as we enter 2016 and I embark on the second half of my 40th year on Earth…I’m thinking it might be time grow up a bit.

In 2016 I’m gonna dye my hair more of a violet-red. Yeah. That feels more mature.

My dog is disappointed...

…in the amount of writing I have done today. He doesn’t understand procrastination. (But he recognizes laziness when he sees it).

After today, we both have a pretty good understanding of Top Chef…

Judging a Book by its Cover

Posted by Blakely Lord on Friday, May 20, 2011, In : Indie Publishing
Illegal Magic has been selling pretty steadily on Amazon (I know! I'm shocked too!) But the more I read/think about the whole Indie Publishing thing, the more I realize that I really need a better e-cover for my e-book. The cover I made myself wasn't terrible. But it wasn't...good.

So, I hired my friend, Sara, to create a better cover. Sara is amazing - a graphic artist, writer, belly dancer. She's basically a super-cool Renaissance woman. When we talked about the cover, she asked me what I w...
